Shoe Vault is a running-shoe collection and mileage tracker for iPhone. Everything you add — shoes, photos, and runs — lives locally on your device; there's no account to sign into.
How many shoes can I track for free? The free tier tracks up to 2 active shoes. Adding a 3rd shoe opens the subscription screen.
How do I subscribe, or start/cancel a free trial? Subscriptions are billed and managed entirely through Apple. Go to Settings → Manage Subscription in Shoe Vault to see plans, or manage/cancel anytime in iOS Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions.
I subscribed but the app still shows the free tier — what do I do? Open Settings → Manage Subscription and use the restore-purchases option on that screen. This re-checks your App Store account for an active entitlement.
My shoe photo didn't come out with a clean cutout — is that normal? Background removal runs entirely on-device and works best with a shoe photographed against a plain, well-lit background. If it can't produce a clean cutout, Shoe Vault falls back to your original photo rather than failing — you can always retake it from the Edit Shoe screen.
The Apple Health Sync toggle doesn't seem to do anything. Make sure you've granted Health permission when prompted (check iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Shoe Vault if you're not sure), and that you have at least one running workout logged in Health from the last 30 days.
Does Shoe Vault back up my data if I get a new phone? Shoe Vault doesn't have its own cloud sync or account. If you restore a new iPhone from an iCloud or computer backup of your old one, your Shoe Vault data typically comes back with it as part of that device backup — but there's currently no separate way to transfer or back up your collection independently of an iPhone backup.
How do I switch between miles and kilometers, or change the theme? Both are in Settings — Distance Units and Appearance.
How do I retire a shoe? Open the shoe's detail screen and use the retire action. Retired shoes move to the Retired filter and stop counting toward your active-shoe limit, but their history stays intact.
How is Total Distance calculated if I already owned a shoe before installing the app? On the Edit Shoe screen you can set "Total Distance" directly — Shoe Vault backs into a baseline so your pre-existing mileage is reflected without you needing to log individual past runs.
The pedestal doesn't tilt or move when I move my phone. If you have iOS Settings → Accessibility → Motion → Reduce Motion turned on, Shoe Vault intentionally disables the tilt/parallax effect and responds to swipe only.
